Urban Aztec

This post slightly defeats the point of the 'as it happens' nature of blogging, but I stumbled across these pictures from a little Sunday lunch date earlier this month and realised I hadn't done an outfit post on my new aztec top. Pastels and aztec at once? Oh yeah, oh yeah......

Our date took place at the Lansdowne in Glasgow - if you ever get the chance to go, take it! They don't get rave burger reviews for nothing, and anywhere that serves chips in a bag is a winner by me. It also happens to be on one of my favourite streets in the city. I used to do yoga at a cute basement studio here, and I definitely wouldn't say no to a house on this quiet, leafy street surrounded by views of church spires, beautiful doorsteps and Volkswagen camper vans.

Sheepish expression on the camper van picture, courtesy of the owners who rudely came to the window as we photographed their vehicle. Some people, eh? Total snap and run moment.

Hope you're all having a sunny Sunday full of ice cream, sun cream and awesome sunglasses. Work those babies while you can.

Spotlight on Scotland: GCU Fashion Show

Laser cut outs, asymmetric skirts, structure....these are all sartorial dream-words for me. Which is why Glasgow Caledonian University's student fashion show was such a pleasure to watch this year. As a former student of GCU (I did journalism), I had a happy little reminiscence when an email dropped into my inbox inviting me along to the end of year show, which showcased the talent of the university's fashion business students.
And as the fashion business department were a source of great interview contacts, guidance and support while I completed my final year dissertation on fashion blogging - there's no way I was going to pass up the chance to cheer on this year's students at their fashion show. It was really lovely to join the team at the drinks reception before the show to get to know some of the faces behind the creations.

Now this is the part where I could get all poetic and wax lyrical about the designs.....or I could just show you the pictures, which make quite enough impact all on their own. I will jump in and say that the top dress is my absolute favourite though - for someone who refuses to touch red meat, I'm crazy craving some laser cut leather right now.

Oh, and as well as having my eyes opened to even more great student talent, my eyes were well and truly opened to the joys of the venue -Silverburn Shopping Centre. What have I been missing?! I sneakily got a little purchase after the show.....but that's for another blog post!

I follow rivers: the yellow dress

It's always a great idea to take pictures squinting in the sun minutes before you're due to leave for a night out. This mad decision meant I was unsure about putting these pictures up - but I had a pretty fantastic night in my new yellow dress, so decided it was worth it just to make sure I remember this fact.

I got this on the sneaky Friday I took off work just before the bank holiday weekend, and it was an impulse buy. Lemon's not a colour I'd normally see on myself, but my sidekick Heather assured me it suited, and I really was about to turn on my heel and take it back until I spotted this collar necklace on sale in Topshop at a bargain £3.50. And like magic - the whole outfit looked exactly how I wanted it to.

Yes that was two River Island dresses in one weekend - but the cheap necklace works with both of them, so there's a thrifty Scot in there somewhere....right? Anyway, I wore this particular outfit to dance all night to celebrate the return of a friend who has packed his bags and moved to America - back for a holiday with the wifey. He told me a top secret and says she reads my blog now and again - meaning she's one of my first official transatlantic readers...pretty cool (proud face). The secret's out now - hi Abby, if you see this!

Club Tropicana...

.....drinks are free! And although I was in Glasgow instead of a beach resort, and the drinks definitely were not free - this dress was really fun to wear. Cut out detail? Check. Miami print? Check. Button up collar. Check. Asymmetric skirt. Check. On paper this should all be too much, but my curiosity got the better of me and I tried it on. And I'm so glad I did.
I wore it last night for a birthday dinner for The Boy. And the sun came out and the girls drank cocktails - so from our dinner table at Slouch we could all pretend we were already in our villa in Portugal - which 9 of us have booked for August. This dress has pool party written all over it, so it's got a space guaranteed in the suitcase.

Ahhh you cannot beat a four day weekend - and with the addition of this dress I kind of feel like I'm on a little stay-cation. We're off to the park today to take advantage of the mild weather and then maybe to the cinema to see Marley, the soundtrack of which, will no doubt make me feel even more like I'm on holiday. Total result. Hope you're all having a fun weekend!

Some new things: Pastels and pineapples

Some new pastel things I picked up this weekend and can't wait to wear over and over again. Oh and a pink pineapple filled with coconut moisturiser. Because, let's face it, who doesn't need one of those.

I'll be back soon with some outfit posts of these babies. I seem to have got really busy lately and a FULL ON addition to the Scandinavian crime drama really doesn't help. Missing your virtual faces though - so I'll be back and blogging on a more regular basis this week. Especially since I have a little four day weekend coming up. What should I do with myself? Spa treatments? Shopping? Lunch with friends? Shutting myself away to watch back to episodes of The Bridge? All of the above? Done.

Things I don't want to share:
Knitted Aztec vest: Topshop
Aztec necklace: Miss Selfridge
Hip flask: Urban Outfitters
Pineapple lotion, bracelts and mint knit: H&M
